All minis rugby programs from U5s to U9s are co-ed and non-contact rugby. U11s is also co-ed, however contact is first introduced at this age group. Scroll down for more information on the specific age groups.
Our aim is to achieve the goals set out in the Rugby Canada Long Term Athlete Development Plan with an emphasis on personal development and what we call ‘Fundamental Team Identity’. Fundamental Team Identity covers our primary objectives, being fun, sportsmanship, team work, respect and discipline, inclusivity and hard work.
All Minis programs train at Mitford Ponds on Mondays & Wednesdays from 6pm to 7pm. U5s do NOT travel to the CRU (Calgary Rugby Union) for games; only the U7-U11s will travel to the CRU for festival-style games on Saturday mornings, specific times to be determined. Your team coach or manager will reach out with specific details once they have been established. Refer to the section below regarding post-registration communication.
The U5-U11 season begins in late April (when the town opens the fields) and continues until the end of June. There is no training in July and August. The season resumes at the end of August and continues until the end of September for some age groups (U9-U15). Registrations are accepted at any point during the season.
Please note: Because rugby is an outdoor sport, all of our trainings are dependent on the weather, and are subject to decisions made by the Town of Cochrane regarding field closures. We will always try to get word out to our teams in time via Facebook and Teamsnap, however the BEST, most direct way to find out about field closures is to call 403-851-2552 (option 2) for the most up-to-date information provided by the town. CRU very rarely closes but if they do decide to close the fields, notifications generally come out Friday evenings, and in turn, we will send word to you through Teamsnap (see the Communication section just below).
All team-specific communication is done through Teamsnap. After your child is registered, and prior to the season start, you will be required to download and create an account with Teamsnap, and we will invite you to your specific team, i.e. U5s, U7s, etc.
