For our junior program, we have u13, u15, u16, and u18 for both boys and girls. To check which program your child should be in, you can refer to the AGE-GRADE-CHART.
NOTE: we our Minis program has u5, u7, u9, and u11. U5 to u9 are coed and non-contact, and contact begins in u11 with boys and girls programs separated.
To determine what program your child should register for, please refer to the AGE-GRADE-CHART.
The U13 and U15 seasons begin in late April (when the town opens the fields) and continues until the end of June. There is no training in July and August. The season then resumes at the end of August and continues until the end of September.
The U16 and U18 seasons begin June 9th and run until the end of September.
Registrations are accepted at any point during the season.
Specific details about days and times for each program are listed above in the program-specific information. However, generally speaking, trainings are twice a week (either Monday & Wednesday or Tuesdays & Thursdays for the older groups), and games are on Saturdays at CRU.
PLEASE NOTE: All training and game dates are weather-dependent. In the case of inclement weather, the town can close the fields. We will always communicate closures as soon as we can through COMMUNICATION-TOOL-CLUB, however the most direct way to find out the field status is to call the Town of Cochrane field status line at 403-851-2552 (option 2) after 4pm on the scheduled day of training or game.
CRU (Calgary Rugby Union, where most games are played) very rarely closes but if they do decide to for whatever reason, notifications will generally go out the evening before. In such cases, we will communicate via COMMUNICATION-TOOL-CLUB.
For Training Days:
- Comfortable athletic clothing (i.e. shorts, t-shirt, etc)
- Cleats (please ensure they are soccer or rugby cleats i.e. they must not have the extra toe cleat required for some other sports

For Game Days:

U5, U7, and U9 are all non-contact. The only non-contact option for juniors is our Friday Night Touch Rugby sessions that run for 12 weeks from January to March. If you'd like to get notified about registration for that and other BVRC happenings, we encourage you to join our newsletter mailing list. This is our where all important information gets shared.
All team-specific communication is done through COMMUNICATION-TOOL-CLUB. After your child is registered, and prior to the season start, you will be required to download and create an account with COMMUNICATION-TOOL-CLUB, and we will invite you to your specific team, i.e. U13 Boys, U13 Girls, etc.
Yes, absolutely! Obviously we are biased, but we think rugby is the best sport in the world and great at fostering so many great values so we don't just raise great athletes but great people!
Some helpful resources we recommend are:
1. New players are always welcome to come along and chat with players/coaches before registering.
2. We have a “Try Rugby” day on TRY-RUGBY-DATE. This day is free for anyone regardless of age or ability to come and join for a day and give it a try with o cost or obligation to join afterwards!
3. Click here LINK to to gain a basic understanding of the beautiful sport of rugby.
While we try to keep our registration rates the most competitive and affordable of all minor sports, we also recognize there can still exist financial barriers to sport. We recommend the following programs, and encourage anyone who is in need to apply:
1. Jumpstart
This program is meant for those who need some help paying for their rugby fees. Click here for the Jumpstart application. Once completed, please submit it to [email protected]
2. Kidsport
This program is also meant for those who need some help paying for their rugby fees. Click here for the Kidsport application. Once completed you can submit your application to [email protected]
